The Gloria McClellan Senior Center is observing Fall Prevention Week from September 21 through 24 with programming designed to help older adults stay safe and healthy.
A key event during the awareness week will be an introductory fitness class scheduled for Wednesday, September 23, beginning at 12:30 in the afternoon. The session will take place at the Park Terrace Cafe and is geared toward seniors of all fitness backgrounds.
Participants in the class will receive instruction on properly using equipment in the senior center's dedicated fitness room. The focus will be on exercises that build strength and enhance balance, both important factors in preventing falls among older adults.
Attendees will also learn techniques for developing personalized workout routines they can follow at the facility or in their own homes. Additional activities are planned throughout the week, with all events taking place at the senior center located at 1400 Vale Terrace Drive.
