Vista has launched a rental assistance initiative aimed at helping elderly residents on limited incomes manage their housing expenses. The program, known as STABLE, which stands for Senior Tenant Assistance for Balanced Living Expenses, is now accepting its initial round of applications through October 26.

City officials plan to select ten seniors during this first application cycle to receive partial help with their rent payments. The program targets a specific group of residents who meet several criteria designed to reach those most in need of housing support.

To be considered, applicants must be at least 65 years old and have a disability. They also need to currently rent a home located within Vista's city boundaries and hold either the lease or have legally recognized tenancy. Additionally, participants cannot already be receiving rental aid through any other assistance program.

The program has established income and financial eligibility standards that interested seniors can review. Interfaith Services is administering the program and can be reached by phone at (760) 489-6380 or via email. Program information, including detailed flyers in both English and Spanish, is available through Interfaith Services' website.
