Vista residents will be able to pick up free sandbags this Saturday as the city prepares for potential El Niño weather patterns and the approaching storm season, according to city officials.
The distribution will take place during a Vista Fire Rescue open house event scheduled for October 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fire Station #3, located at 1962 E. Vista Way. Each household may receive up to 10 unfilled sandbags on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Residents will need to fill the bags themselves at retail locations that sell sand.
The open house marks the third in a series of community events being held throughout Fire Prevention Month, which is observed nationally each October. City officials have made these open houses an annual tradition to engage with the community during this fire safety awareness period.
Additional open house events are planned through November. Residents who have not attended earlier sessions this season can find remaining dates and locations on the city's online calendar at vista.gov/calendar.
