With the end of Daylight Saving Time this weekend, local fire officials are encouraging residents to use the occasion as a reminder to inspect their home safety equipment.
The Vista Fire Rescue department is asking community members to check their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when they adjust their clocks backward. Carbon monoxide poses a serious threat because it cannot be seen or smelled, making detectors essential for alerting families to dangerous levels of the gas in their homes.
For residents who need assistance, the department operates a program that provides smoke alarm installations free of charge. The Safe & Sound Smoke Alarm Installation Program serves senior citizens, those facing financial constraints, and people residing in aging or higher-risk housing.
Additional information about the no-cost alarm installation program is available through Vista Fire Rescue.
