A groundbreaking ceremony took place Thursday, October 22, marking the beginning of a comprehensive renovation at Valle Lindo Elementary School in Chula Vista. District officials, students, families, and community members gathered to kick off the modernization effort, which is being paid for through Measure M bond funds.
The renovation will transform the campus with fresh classroom buildings featuring learning centers, an innovation hub, a studio, and areas designed for student teamwork. Separate structures will house transitional kindergarten programs, student services, administrative offices, and food service operations. The design also emphasizes outdoor education, incorporating a landscaped courtyard, covered walkways, trees, seating areas, and designated outdoor classrooms throughout the campus.
Principal Ashley Paez expressed enthusiasm about the project during the ceremony. She noted the modernization represents a significant milestone for the school and thanked the community for the chance to develop a campus that honors the students, staff, and families who form the school's foundation.
Valle Lindo Elementary, home of the Steller Eagles, first opened its doors in 1967 as the district's 21st school and has educated neighborhood children for nearly 60 years. The school currently enrolls students from transitional kindergarten through sixth grade and provides special day programs, dual language immersion instruction, and operates as a community school.
The Chula Vista Elementary School District Board of Education granted approval for the modernization in December 2025, with completion scheduled for July 2028. Construction partners Balfour Beatty and Ruhnau Clarke Architects participated in the groundbreaking alongside district leaders and labor representatives. The district is providing project updates and relocation details on its dedicated webpage for the campus modernization.
