State transportation officials announced that northbound lanes of State Route 163 will be shut down for most of the day on Sunday, November 1, to accommodate a charitable walking event in San Diego.
The California Department of Transportation plans to close the northbound side of the highway between A Street and Robinson Avenue from 5 in the morning until 11 at night. The closure will allow participants in the More Than Pink Walk to use the roadway safely.
Drivers heading north will need to use Interstate 5 as an alternate route during the closure period. Traffic flowing south on State Route 163 will not be affected and will continue operating normally throughout the day.
Transportation officials are urging anyone traveling near the area to stay alert for highway workers and construction equipment that may be present. The planned closure could be adjusted if weather problems, traffic collisions, or other operational issues arise.
Travelers can access current traffic conditions, including information about lane closures and road work, through the state's online mapping system.
