A collaborative public health initiative between San Diego County and UC San Diego has achieved a significant milestone by training more than one million area residents in hands-only CPR techniques.

The Revive & Survive San Diego CPR campaign recently surpassed its target of reaching one million trained individuals, prompting officials from both the county and the university to mark the accomplishment.

The hands-only approach to CPR eliminates the need for mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, making the lifesaving technique more accessible to members of the public who may be hesitant to perform traditional CPR. This streamlined method focuses on chest compressions to maintain blood flow during cardiac emergencies.

County and university officials celebrated the achievement as a major public health success that could potentially save lives throughout the region when cardiac emergencies occur in community settings.
