Carlsbad's Monroe Street Pool will open its doors to the public at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026, marking the completion of an extensive renovation project that transformed the aging facility. The pool, which has served the community for more than four decades, underwent major reconstruction work that began in March 2025.

City officials and residents gathered Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to preview the upgraded aquatic center. The renovation project was finished at a cost of roughly $21 million, coming in below the authorized spending limit of $24 million that voters approved in November 2022. With inflation adjustments factored in, the budget ceiling could have reached close to $27 million.

City Manager Geoff Patnoe emphasized the facility's role in the community, noting that the modernized pool represents a long-term investment in recreational opportunities for residents of all ages. The reconstruction included necessary updates to bring the facility into compliance with current health, safety, and building code requirements.

Before the facility opens to swimmers next week, staff members including lifeguards and administrators will spend the coming days conducting training sessions and finalizing operational preparations. Monroe Street Pool is one of two public aquatic centers operated by the city, with the Alga Norte Aquatic Center serving residents in the southern portion of Carlsbad.
