Transportation officials will shut down a key freeway connector in San Diego for two consecutive nights this week to allow crews to complete electrical infrastructure work.

The connector linking southbound Interstate 5 to northbound State Route 15 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on both Wednesday, September 23, and Thursday, September 24, according to Caltrans.

Drivers who normally use the connector can take an alternate route by continuing south on I-5 to the 8th Street exit, making a left turn to access the northbound I-5 on-ramp, and then using the northbound SR-15 connector from there.

Officials are urging motorists traveling through the construction zone to stay alert and watch for workers and equipment on the roadway. The closure schedule could be adjusted if weather, traffic incidents, or other work-related issues arise.

Real-time traffic updates are available through the state's QuickMap website, and commuters can follow Caltrans District 11 on social media for additional information about road conditions in San Diego and Imperial counties.
