A portion of Telegraph Canyon Road will be temporarily shut down to westbound traffic overnight Thursday as state highway officials conduct maintenance work on the roadway.

The California Department of Transportation announced the closure will affect the westbound lanes between Nacion Avenue and Halecrest Drive. Work is scheduled to begin at 11 p.m. on October 8 and continue until 5 a.m. the following morning.

Drivers heading west on Telegraph Canyon Road during those hours will need to follow a detour route. Officials are directing motorists to make a left turn onto Oleander Avenue, followed by a right turn onto Palomar Street, another right onto Melrose Avenue, and a final right turn to rejoin Telegraph Canyon Road.

State transportation authorities are urging drivers passing through the construction zone to remain alert and watch for workers and equipment that may be in motion. Officials noted the planned work schedule could be altered if weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other construction-related factors require changes.

Drivers seeking current traffic conditions can access real-time information through the state's QuickMap system online.
