California transportation officials will temporarily shut down a key freeway connector in San Diego later this month to complete necessary guardrail maintenance.

The ramp carrying westbound Highway 54 traffic to northbound Interstate 5 will be closed for an eight-hour period beginning at 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 25, and reopening at 5 a.m. Monday morning, according to Caltrans.

Drivers who normally use that connector can follow an alternate route by staying on westbound Highway 54, taking the southbound I-5 connector instead, then exiting at H Street. From there, motorists should turn left to access the on-ramp for northbound I-5.

Officials are advising travelers to remain alert in construction zones and watch for workers and equipment that may be operating in the area. The planned closure could be rescheduled if weather conditions, traffic collisions, or other unforeseen circumstances require a change.
