The Oceanside Police Department is seeking the public's help in locating a man who was known to acquaintances as Robert Lance Lindsey, though investigators have determined that name is an alias and his real identity remains unknown.
The man, believed to have been in his late 60s or early 70s in 2021, suddenly moved out of a home he was sharing with a girlfriend in Oceanside, taking all of his possessions with him. Before disappearing, he sent a text message to someone he knew stating it was "time to face the music," according to police.
Investigators looking into his disappearance discovered that the Robert Lindsey identity was fabricated, and they have been unable to determine the man's actual name or birth date. Authorities believe he may have engaged in fraudulent activities.
According to information gathered by police, the man claimed to be a widower whose wife, whom he referred to as Joanne Lindsey, had died from cancer around 2018 or 2019. Records indicate the couple resided in the neighboring city of Carlsbad from roughly 2014 until 2019.
Anyone with information about this individual is urged to contact the Oceanside Police Department's Missing Persons Unit at (760) 435-4846.
