Carlsbad's Monroe Street Pool has reached a significant construction milestone, with plastering complete and the facility now filled with water, according to the city manager's latest update. The pool replacement and expansion project is approaching its final stages before the facility can welcome swimmers back.

Before the pool can officially reopen, contractors must finish several remaining tasks including deck work, mechanical systems, and coordination with outside agencies. Gas utility work with SDG&E and final health department inspections from the county are still pending. City officials indicated an official reopening date should be announced in the coming weeks.

The completed facility will offer a substantially larger pool with 50 percent more swimming lanes compared to the previous version. Nearly every component of the complex has been upgraded, including restroom facilities, shower and locker room areas, lighting systems, and mechanical equipment. Additional improvements include new shade structures, expanded deck areas, and bleacher seating designed to enhance comfort for swimmers, instructors, and spectators.

Some construction work may continue in limited portions of the site after the pool reopens to the public, but city officials said this activity is not anticipated to interfere with normal facility use. The city expressed appreciation for community patience throughout the improvement process.

In other city news, Carlsbad's Parks and Recreation Department recently received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies, making it one of only two California cities to earn the distinction this year and one of just 232 accredited agencies nationwide.
