A Carlsbad-area writer will speak about his book chronicling his grandparents' romance through correspondence they exchanged nearly a century ago.

John Thill is scheduled to appear at the Georgina Cole Library on Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to discuss "A California Love Story." The book compiles love letters written by his grandparents during the 1920s, documenting their hopes of establishing a future together on California's coast.

The correspondence traces the journey of two young individuals from the nation's interior who aspired to settle in Oceanside, which at the time was a modest coastal town in a largely undeveloped region. After Thill came into possession of the letters years later, he decided to preserve his grandparents' narrative by assembling them into a book.

The presentation will take place in the Cole Community Room at the library, located at 1250 Carlsbad Village Drive. The Carlsbad City Library and Carlsbad Historical Society are jointly hosting the event.
