A key freeway connector in San Diego County will be temporarily unavailable to drivers Saturday morning as transportation officials conduct necessary maintenance work.

The California Department of Transportation announced that the southbound Interstate 5 ramp leading to State Route 76 and Coast Highway will be closed for a five-hour period beginning at 4 a.m. on October 24. The closure is scheduled to last until 9 a.m. while crews perform guardrail repairs.

Drivers who need to access Highway 76 during the closure can take an alternate route by exiting at Mission Avenue from southbound Interstate 5, making a left turn, and then merging onto northbound Interstate 5 to reach the Highway 76 connector.

Transportation officials are urging travelers to remain vigilant while passing through construction areas, paying careful attention to both workers and moving equipment. The planned work could be postponed or adjusted depending on weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other operational factors.
