A new affordable housing development aimed at serving older residents broke ground in Imperial Beach today, marking the start of construction on a project designed to address both senior housing needs and homelessness in the community.

The Haven on Palm will include 50 residential units specifically designated for senior citizens. The development represents a significant addition to the city's affordable housing stock for elderly residents.

According to the project plan, 25 of the units—representing half of the total housing available—will be allocated to seniors who are currently experiencing homelessness or transitioning out of homelessness. The remaining units will also serve older adults seeking affordable housing options in the area.
