Transportation officials will temporarily shut down a key highway connector in San Diego for two consecutive overnight periods this week to allow crews to complete electrical work.

The westbound State Route 54 connector leading to southbound Interstate 5 will be closed from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on both Tuesday, September 8, and Wednesday, September 9, according to Caltrans.

Drivers planning to use the connector during those hours will need to follow a posted detour route. The alternate path directs traffic to take the northbound I-5 connector instead, then exit at Miles of Cars Way/Bay Marina Drive, make a left turn, and access southbound I-5 via the on-ramp at that location.

Officials are urging drivers traveling through the work zone to remain alert and watch for both highway workers and construction equipment that may be in motion. The planned closure schedule could be modified depending on weather conditions, traffic incidents, or other construction-related factors.

Motorists can access real-time traffic updates, including information about lane closures and road conditions, through the state's online traffic map system.
