Homeowners looking to reduce water consumption while maintaining attractive yards can attend a pair of complimentary educational sessions next month focused on sustainable landscaping practices.

Vista Irrigation District and Vallecitos Water District will jointly present the workshops on November 7. Both events will include a continental breakfast for attendees, and advance registration is requested through links provided by the water districts.

The first session, focused on lawn transformation, will cover topics including how to choose plants suited to the local climate, design outdoor spaces that require less irrigation, and incorporate environmentally responsible landscaping methods into residential properties.

The second offering centers on garden design principles that maximize water efficiency. Participants will learn strategies for shaping terrain to collect and hold rainwater, organize plantings into irrigation zones based on water needs, and properly plan and position rain gardens to achieve optimal results.
