Law enforcement officials in El Cajon are asking the public for help in solving a homicide from over 25 years ago involving a woman who came to the United States seeking employment and a brighter future for her family.

Authorities discovered the remains of Alicia Ledezma Sanchez in a wooded section of El Cajon during August 1998. Detectives concluded that she had been killed. Sanchez, who was originally from Mexico, left behind three children who are now adults, as well as grandchildren and siblings.

The department's specialized unit handling unsolved homicides continues working on the investigation and remains dedicated to finding answers for the victim's family. Officials say that even details that seemed unimportant at the time could prove crucial to the case today.

Authorities are especially hoping to hear from people who have not yet come forward with what they know about the victim's whereabouts, companions, or activities before her body was found on August 13, 1998. Detectives note that modern investigative methods, when paired with fresh information from community members, can help resolve cases that have been open for many years.
