The El Cajon Police Department's Cold Case Homicide Unit is asking the public for assistance in solving a decades-old murder case involving a Mexican national who came to the United States seeking better opportunities for her children.

Alicia Ledezma Sanchez, a mother who had traveled from Mexico in search of work and hoping to provide a brighter future for her family, was found dead in a wooded area of El Cajon during the summer of 1998. Authorities determined her death was the result of foul play. She left behind three children, grandchildren, and siblings.

Despite the passage of more than 25 years, detectives remain dedicated to pursuing all available leads and bringing resolution to the case. Investigators emphasize that even seemingly minor details or information that may not have appeared significant at the time could prove valuable to their ongoing work.

Police are particularly interested in speaking with individuals who have not previously come forward with information about the victim's activities, acquaintances, or events leading up to the discovery of her body on August 13, 1998. Authorities note that advances in investigative techniques, combined with fresh information from community members, can help move forward cases that have remained unsolved for many years.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the El Cajon Police Department's Investigations Division at (619) 579-3320 or via email at ColdHomicideUnit@elcajon.gov.
