Chula Vista officials are urging residents to prepare for anticipated rain and El Niño weather by offering complimentary sandbags this weekend at the city's Public Works facility.
The distribution will take place Saturday, October 31, from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 1800 Maxwell Road. Residents should enter through the first driveway and follow posted signage. Each household may pick up as many as 10 sandbags at no charge on a first-come, first-served basis while inventory remains available.
Those wishing to obtain sandbags must show proof they live within Chula Vista city limits. The bags will not be available at any fire station locations.
City officials are also reminding the public about wet-weather safety measures. Motorists must turn on headlights whenever windshield wipers are operating, and should never drive through flooded streets. Storm damage such as fallen trees can be reported via the city's ACT system or by contacting Public Works at (619) 397-6000. Emergency situations warrant a 9-1-1 call.
Additional resources on storm readiness and correct sandbag installation techniques are available on the city's El Niño Preparedness webpage.
