Carlsbad will host a Day of the Dead celebration at Leo Carrillo Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, October 31, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., offering residents a chance to participate in the traditional Mexican observance.
The Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday centered on remembering and honoring deceased loved ones. Families traditionally build decorated altars called ofrendas, adorned with flowers, candles, cherished belongings, and the favorite dishes of those being commemorated.
Attendees at the historic park will find a traditional altar honoring the Carrillo family alongside festive decorations throughout the venue. The event will include a musical performance by Grupo Bella, ballet folklorico dancing, arts and crafts activities, storytelling sessions, and photo opportunities. Community members will also have the chance to contribute to a shared community altar in memory of their own loved ones.
The park is located at 6200 Flying Leo Carrillo Lane, with parking available at nearby Carrillo Elementary School. Those unable to attend the Saturday celebration can view Day of the Dead decorations at the Hacienda from Monday, October 28 through Monday, November 2 during the park's normal operating hours.
