Carlsbad residents will have the opportunity to meet local first responders and learn about public safety operations at the city's annual open house scheduled for Saturday, October 3. The event honors both Fire Prevention Week and National Crime Prevention Month.

The free gathering will feature demonstrations and activities from the city's Police Department, Fire Department and Public Works Department. Families can interact with public safety personnel and community partners while learning safety tips applicable to daily life.

In other city news, officials highlighted a recent success involving the Carlsbad Connects mobile application, which allows residents to report maintenance issues throughout the community. A resident used the app to flag an uneven sidewalk on Faraday Avenue near El Fuerte Street, prompting city crews to address a concrete settling problem that had created a tripping hazard. Workers removed the damaged section and reconstructed the sidewalk with improvements designed to prevent similar issues in the future.

The app enables residents to report various problems including potholes, sidewalk damage, malfunctioning traffic signals, graffiti and code violations. Users can submit reports without creating an account or register for a free profile to monitor their submissions and view reports from other community members. The application is available through both Apple and Android app stores.

City Manager Scott Chadwick praised the open house as one of his favorite annual traditions, noting it provides valuable opportunities for residents to connect with the public servants working to maintain community safety.
