Officials in Carlsbad are moving forward with efforts to increase parking availability in the Village and Barrio areas, which remain a focus for municipal planners.
The city has already made progress on the issue, having created 44 new parking spots last year. More recently, an additional 11 spaces were installed on State Street and Oak Avenue in the area between Tyler Street and the railroad tracks, as well as near beach locations.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2027 on two projects that will add 16 more parking spaces. The work will involve reconfiguring existing parallel parking into diagonal or perpendicular parking configurations to maximize the number of available spots.
According to the city, planners are continuing to assess other potential locations where additional parking could be added in these neighborhoods. Residents can register to receive updates on future parking improvement projects in the Village and Barrio areas.
