The Carlsbad City Library will commemorate Veterans Day with a presentation examining one of the most significant humanitarian operations in U.S. naval history.
John Landry, a docent at the USS Midway Museum and longtime Carlsbad resident, will deliver a talk about Operation Frequent Wind, the 1975 mission during which the aircraft carrier evacuated roughly 3,000 Vietnamese refugees as Saigon fell to North Vietnamese forces. Landry, who served in the U.S. Navy, will recount details of the emergency rescue effort that unfolded in the closing days of the Vietnam War.
The presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, November 10, at 2 p.m. in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium at the library's Dove Lane location, 1775 Dove Lane. The venue will open its doors a half hour prior to the start time, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis.
The program is part of the library's Midway Museum Series for adult patrons. Additional information about future library events can be found through the city's programming listings.
